This year’s 4-H Clover Kids program for youngsters in kindergarten through third grade will focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Participants will complete hands-on activities to begin building life skills.
As youngsters are involved in Clover Kids and STEM, they will be guided to answer questions, design tests, create models, build understanding, and share their work with others.
The first sessions begin in February, with plans in place for sessions to be held for all three school districts in the county. In each program, enrollment fee for the four sessions is $10.
The Jefferson-Scranton Clover Kids program will meet every first Wednesday starting February and ending in May, Feb. 5, March 5, April 2 and May 7. All four sessions will be held at the Jefferson-Scranton elementary from 2 to 3:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the Paton-Churdan Clover Kids program will be held every third Wednesday of the month, Feb. 19, March 19, April 16, and May 21 from 2:30 to 4 pm at the Churdan Community Center.
The East Greene Clover Kids program will meet Sundays: Feb. 9, March 9, April 13 and May 11 from 6 to 7:30 pm at the St. Brigid Parish in Grand Junction.
Parents who wish to enroll a child in the 2014 spring Clover Kids program can contact Sarah Jo Reynolds, county youth and families coordinator, at the Greene County Extension office by phone at 515-386-2138 or e-mail sarahjo@iastate.edu. Registration materials will be available at the Greene County Extension office or can be sent by e-mail. Program size is limited, so parents are encouraged to register children early to ensure a spot. Program fees will be used to offset direct expenses and to support the 4-H and youth county Extension program.
